About
Guy Weizman and Roni Haver started their career as dancers in the Bat Sheva Ensemble in Tel Aviv. Since then, they have worked and danced with different companies in Europe, including Ultima Vez in Brussels (Wim Vandekeybus) and Lanonima Imperial in Barcelona (Juan Carlos Garcia), and Galili Dance. It was with Galili Dance that they choreographed their first pieces.
They set up Club Guy & Roni in 2002. They have toured full-length productions both at home and abroad. From home base Groningen they built a quirky repertoire, with performances that far exceed the genre ‘dance’. The Club wants to bring dancers and other artists from around the world together to create a melting pot of ideas.
International collaborations
Weizman and Haver have been ‘choreographers in residence’ at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater from 2010 to 2014. They also moved with the artistic staff from Oldenburg to the Staatstheater Mainz, with which a long-term relationship with the dance company tanzmainz was ushered in.
The choreography duo is also regularly invited by other companies for collaborative projects. Since 2011 they have been working together with the Moscow dance company Tsekh Contemporary Dance Center. Various co-productions have also been made in Tuscany and Belgrade, as well as Gothenburg Ballet (Sweden) and Carte Blanche (Norway).
Prizes
Club Guy & Roni have made a name with performances such as ‘Alpha Boys’ (nominated for the Swan 2011) and ‘L’Histoire du Soldat’ (in 2013 the Golden Mask Award in Russia). The company won a Swan – the Oscar of dance – for the performance ‘Midnight Rising’ (best dance production 2013) and for dancer Igor Podsiadly for his role in ‘Naked Lunch’ (best dance performance 2014).
