Uppercut Dance Theater

Uppercut Dance Theater is a diverse and international dance company. The company offers a fresh fusion of different dance styles, which is illustrated by the individual dancers’ different backgrounds in capoeira, break dance, acrobatics and contemporary dance.

Uppercut Dance Theater’s ensemble are chosen for their distinctive individual style and character. It is important for the company to consist of performers and dancers with very different individual qualities, giving the company a diverse movement language.

The artistic leadership behind Uppercut Dance Theater consists of Stephanie Thomasen and Mark Philip. With performances such as Differences, 360°, CRASH, PANIC DAY, and the trilogy WHAT WAS MUST DIE featuring SAMBA, LIMBO and KALINKA, they have developed the company towards the more mature audience alongside the traditional and important repertoire for children and young people.

The works of recent years have resulted in several prestigious awards, nominations, grants, as well as a host of positive reviews from enthusiastic journalists. Amongst other, SAMBA was nominated and won the award of Best Dance Performance of the Year at the Danish Reumert Awards in 2020, and LIMBO received a nomination for Best Dance Performance of the Year in 2021.
